Re: Russia expels 20 Czech diplomats in tit-for-tat response

As a Czech citizen myself, oh boy lemme tell ya boy! It's been a shitshow, especially with certain high-ranking government officials being fairly strongly pro-Russian: first it was downplayed ("it wasn't an attack on our citizens you see, it was an attack on the property of a Bulgarian company&...

Re: How do you manage your ~/Downloads folder?

I don't use the Downloads folder, the oldest file I have in there is from like 2017 (back when I still used Windows). I always choose the location where to save the files I'm downloading, which is either a corresponding folder or, if it's a file I won't want to keep, /tmp.

Poettering: "Gentoo is to distributions what Bitcoin is to money"

linky Everyone's favourite 40-going-on-15 Red Hat programmer has posted a tweet. Scientists will, for decades to come, try and fail to decrypt this mysterious message left behind by a deity. No seriously, I have no clue what he's trying to say with this, but knowing him, it's probably not a positiv...

Probably one of Górny's new revolutionary ideas: rootfs read-only with /home mounted as OverlayFS. ;) This is some sick joke, right? That's not revolutionary, that's outright sabotage if its true. Well, it's meant as a joke... However if he sees this and takes it as inspiration, I cannot be held li...

Re: pronouns in email sig

At least they put that sig there willingly. Not like company Gmail forcibly appending a sig (at least it's properly formatted with the '-- ' delimiter) on the SMTP server, breaking GPG (and probably S/MIME) signatures.

There aren't really any newly-released mail clients nowadays, I guess all the currently available options are Good Enough™. Hiri and Mailspring are relatively new that you don't hear often about, but I certainly wouldn't use "awesome" or any other positive adjectives to describe them. If y...

I'm mildly surprised that this is getting any backlash at all, I thought it was public consensus in the US that white people = bad; all the media and "intellectuals" coming from there definitely suggest so anyways.

Re: What ever happened to Compiz?

I guess the interest for 2000s-esque effects like a spinning desktop cube or closed windows burning up has died, just like the interest for cool media player skins. As for the Wayland debate, I have a Maxwell GPU and MATE on my personal computer, so that's a non-starter. I did have Fedora 29 and Ubu...

You got a licence to deliver food there, mate?

I turned on the TV yesterday and saw a show was on called "Police Interceptors", as far as I could tell it was about the TV crew going with the UK police patrols and filming them in action. One of the segments was about a car driving "suspiciously slowly"; turns out the poor fell...
