Forums should be simplified

Post by dont_think_twice »

The current setup is too confusing.

First, there are too many categories. Why is there a "General" and a "The Meaning Of Life, The Universe And Everything"? Why is there a "Politics" and a "World Affairs"? Why is there a "Suggestions" and a "Feedback"?

Second, the sub-forums are confusing. The sub-forums under General seem inconsistent - why are "Business" and "World Affairs" and "Entertainment and Media" main forums, but "Food and Drink" and "Politics" fall under General? Do Linux and Gaming really need sub-forums?

Suggestions:
Combine forums where possible (merge TMOLTUAE and General, merge World Affairs into Politics, merge Suggestions into Feedback).

Eliminate sub-forums entirely. Promote Food and Drink and Politics, and make Linux and Gaming single boards.

Agreed, General, linux and feedback would be enough. Liked everything being in one place on the gfotw.

EDIT: Also say hello completely eliminates the airplane thing (how did that start btw?)

Also moving the UK specific sub forum back to general, might be an idea. I always like to see what's happening in other parts of the world and that generally tends to land in - well, general.

"The Meaning Of Life, The Universe And Everything" was intended for philosophy.

I don't really care how they rearrange the structure/layout as I have the quick links bookmarked for here and that's what I use.

ok first step.

Flatted all the linux distro's ... let's be honest they are almost all the same...
Merged UK in with Politics - nice area to start with and it started as a Brum rant area anyway :)
TMOLTUAE was explicitly asked for as a clutter free philosophical area so lets keep it for a bit.
Sport could do with a compression as well.
